Kildare Water Safety: The Lucky Christians!
Haven’t they got the luck of the Irish, those Kildare Water Safety lot? Not only did they dip their toes into the waters of the Water Safety Ireland Still Water Championships, but they swam away with a whale of a tale – 22 medals in total, and a third-place overall finish in the Senior and Masters competitions! Sláinte to that, says I!
Held at the University of Limerick, the championships brought together the best of the best from all over the Emerald Isle, and, by the prongs of Neptune, Kildare was right in the thick of it. The county’s finest water warriors left no wave un-conquered, or so it seemed. Three teams, in fact, represented Kildare at the event: the Open Team, the Masters Team, and the Junior Team. And, by the saints, did they make the most of it!
Now, I’m no expert, but I reckon 22 medals is no small feat. I mean, that’s like finding a four-leaf clover in a field of – well, I won’t say rough stuff, but, you know, regular clover. It’s like hitting the jackpot, only instead of cash, it’s medals! I mean, I’d be happy with that myself, wouldn’t you?
The Open Team brought home a whopping 10 medals, including three golds, four silvers, and three bronzes. The Masters Team wasn’t too shabby themselves, hauling in eight medals – a mix of gold, silver, and bronze. And the Junior Team, you ask? Well, they were the icing on the cake, or rather, the cream on the Guinness. They won three medals between them, including a well-deserved gold.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: what exactly is Water Safety Ireland? Well, it’s not for me to say, but from what I gather, it’s all about making sure our rivers, lakes, and general waterways are safe and enjoyable for everyone – well, mostly everyone. There’s rules, of course, and then there’s the skills, and then there’s the… well, let’s just say, it’s a bit of a jamboree, really.
As one of the organizers of the championships, Irish Water Safety CEO, Gerry Hanratty, had this to say: "We’re absolutely thrilled with the results. The hard work and dedication of our members has been recognized at an international level, and we’re proud to have Kildare top the podium in the still water events." Well, isn’t that a lovely sentiment? I mean, it’s not every day you get to sound off like a pap (that’s Irish for "a person from Galway" – just go with it) and tell the world how proud you are of your lot.
Of course, this is also a testament to the tireless efforts of the Kildare Water Safety team, who’ve been pulling their crusters (that’s another Galway thing – trust me, it’s a phrase) to make sure everything runs smoothly. I mean, you can’t exactly just wing it when it comes to water safety, can you? It takes a village, a team, and a whole lot of know-how.
So here’s to Kildare Water Safety: may their luck remain with them, and may their medals continue to stack up like a tray of pint glasses at the local pub. May the wind be always at their backs, and the sun shine upon their faces, and may the River Liffey forever flow with the blessings of the water gods.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: what can we learn from the Kildare Water Safety team’s story? Well, for starters, it’s all about hard work, dedication, and a wee bit of Irish luck. But, more importantly, it’s about the importance of water safety, and making sure we all stay safe in and around the water. So go ahead, take a dip, have a splash, but please, for the love of all things hallowed, be water safe!
In conclusion, Kildare Water Safety team, you’ve truly earned your pennant, and I can only imagine the craic (that’s a party, for non-Gaelic speakers) they must have had in Limerick. So here’s to many more medals to come, and to the joy of being Irish – for, as the great philosopher once said, "May the road rise up to meet you, and may the wind be always at your back."
