As Cllr Rupert Heather so astutely pointed out at a recent Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District meeting, “There is only one playground for a population of 20,000 people.” Ah, now that’s what I call a mathematical mismatch, if not a downright travesty! I mean, what’s the craic, Kildare County Council? Can’t they see that the wee ones need a place to run wild and free, to burn off some of that boundless energy and imagination that’s characteristic of the Irish youth?
Now, I’m not one to cry over spilt milk, but the lack of a second playground or multi-use games area in Celbridge is a bit of a debacle, if you ask me. I mean, what’s the point of having a thriving town with a population of 20,000 if you can’t provide the basic amenities for the little nippers? It’s like trying to run a pub without Guinness – it just doesn’t make sense, me friends!
But, alas, it seems that Kildare County Council is not quite ready to take the plunge and provide the necessary funds for a second playground. “Not right now,” they say.
