Dear Kildare County Councilors,
I am writing to you with a heavy heart and a sincere plea for awareness and action on an issue that affects countless families in Athy and throughout Ireland—parental alienation. This devastating phenomenon tears fathers away from their children’s lives, often due to false accusations and manipulative narratives. The emotional toll is profound, leaving fathers feeling hopeless and children deprived of the love and support they deserve.
I recently wrote a song titled “The Shanty of Her Tangled Lies,” which captures the deep anguish fathers experience when they are unjustly estranged from their children. The lyrics depict the pain of falsehoods that poison young minds against loving fathers, leading to emotional isolation and unbearable grief. I share these words not as mere poetry but as a reflection of the real suffering endured by fathers who are rendered voiceless in family courts and societal perceptions.
A few lines from the song:
“Two fathers lost upon the tide,
By wicked words and tales that lied,
Their children’s faces fade from view,
Stolen by lies that sounded true.”
These words echo the cries of fathers who are falsely accused while the accuser remains unchallenged, wielding lies as weapons. These situations are not merely personal tragedies—they are systemic failures that deeply affect our communities, leaving broken families and emotionally scarred children.
Why This Matters:
- Children are deprived of loving, supportive fathers.
- Fathers suffer emotional and psychological distress, leading to depression, anxiety, and in tragic cases, suicide.
- False allegations exploit a system that lacks accountability for those who manipulate the truth.
My Request to You:
I urge the Kildare County Council to take the following actions:
- Acknowledge the impact of parental alienation on fathers, children, and society.
- Advocate for legislative reform that ensures both parents have fair access to their children.
- Promote accountability for false accusations, ensuring that lies are not rewarded with custody and control.
- Support community awareness programs that educate the public about parental alienation and its consequences.
These fathers are not asking for sympathy—they are asking for justice, for the chance to love and guide their children. They are asking for their right to be fathers, a right that should never be determined by deceit and manipulation.
A Call to Action:
This is a call out to those with influence, those with a vote, and those lawmakers with a heart. Please see fit that both parents get to be a part of a child’s life, without a father having to fight to death to be a father.
Athy has the opportunity to lead the way in recognizing and addressing parental alienation. Let us work together to create a system that values truth, justice, and the fundamental rights of parents and children.
Thank you for your attention and your commitment to the well-being of all families in our community. I am more than willing to discuss this matter further or provide testimony from affected fathers to highlight the urgency of this issue.
Sincerely,
Ryan Thompson
